Julia Scatliff O’Grady

Julia Scatliff O’Grady’s abiding interest in time may owe in part to her great aunts and great uncles, who worked on the Elgin Watch factory assembly line during the early days of the wristwatch. As a young college graduate, O’Grady traveled to campuses throughout the U.S., recruiting volunteers who would become the catalysts for Americorps. She heard as much enthusiasm as she heard another chorus: “I’m not sure I have the time.” The PhD candidate in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina, now a mother of two children, found a calling: to discover the source of our busyness and understand what it might mean to be GOOD BUSY.
